July 23rd City Council Meeting - Uptown Ballpark Plan vs Forest City ENA - 07/18/2002
July 23rd City Council Meeting
Uptown Ballpark Master Plan vs Forest City ENA
WHAT: City Council vote on Forest City Exclusive Negotiations And New Provision addition.
WHEN: Tuesday, July 23rd at 7:PM
WHY: Urge city council to allow ballpark negotiations at Uptown Area
WHERE: City Council Chambers Oakland City Hall, 2nd Floor 1 Frank Ogawa Plaza (14th St. and Broadway)
All fans of Oakland and the A's are urged to attend this meeting as a show of support for the Uptown ballpark drive.
Oakland residents, in particular, are encouraged to attend and speak to your city representatives. Tell them that Forest City shouldn't get the full exclusive negotiating agreement, that the A's should be allowed to negotiate with the city at Uptown, the least expensive ballpark site, and that housing AND a ballpark would go hand-in-hand at Uptown.
Even if you're not an Oakland resident, and don't plan to speak, still come on out and wear your A’s hats, jerseys and jackets. All that green and gold will once again show the politicians and the A's owners that there is a ton of support for keeping the A’s in Oakland.
(Below you will find the proposed amendment to Agency/Forest City ENA)
1.3 EXCLUSIVE NEGOTIATIONS Agency (city) shall not actively solicit proposals from third parties or negotiate with third parties for the development of any portion of the Property prior to the termination of this Agreement or execution of a DDA, whichever occurs first; ___Provided however, that it shall not be a violation of this provision or this Agreement: (1) to invite owners of Land within the Property to participate in redevelopment, as required by the California Community Redevelopment Law;____or (2) for Agency to solicit proposals from or negotiate with the Oakland Athletics organization or any affiliated or related organization, and any of their agents or representatives regarding development of all or any position of the Land, Property or the Uptown Area.
NEW PROVISION TO BE ADDED: (Amendment proposed by Dick Spees)
At Agency's request, Developer will include a ballpark or related development in Developer's Environmental Impact Report ("EIR") analysis of alternative developments. Agency agrees to reimburse Developer for the incremental costs of including such analysis. Developer and Agency shall first meet and confer regarding the proposed scope of the alternative analysis and the incremental costs for which the Agency will be liable.
