Sacto,
its a fluke! I agree we could used an upgrade, although I do like Inge, but Chavez is not the answer...B69

I doubt he'd even be healthy enough to play if he had been the everyday starter all season.

sometimes it takes 2-3 yrs to recover from back surgery, i think the Yankees would not have him on thier team if they thought his play was a fluke or sub standard.

even if he played with Ing or the other guy whos out hes a good back up 34 hes still got 3 yrs if hes healthy.

it helps not to have been the starting third baseman for the entire season.

He sat at home and collected $66 million and now you want him back?

Sacto, Chavez is perpetually day to day and your nuts.

Sacto - Now you have gone off the deep end. I have been in your corner consistantly on your BB criticisms. But this time, you are on your own. Chavez has to be my least favorite A'S player of all time. If Chavez is ever added to the A'S roster again , I will cease to be an A'S fan.

Chavez did not perform well in the playoffs, was not Mr. Clutch, and showed no leadership. He played through his injuries to get a big contract, when he could have surgery sooner and probably a faster and easier recovery. Add not a team player to the other negatives. He belongs with Arod and the Skanks and I hope he doesn't return.

The problem is this Sacto,

He didn't play the last three years of his contract. At least not very much or very well.

But he sure has hell collected that $66 million dollars the A's gave him.

By the way, prior to last night's game, he sat out of the previous 3 games. So he is STILL very fragile.

Yes, he is better than anything we have right now, but Inge has been service-able.

Inge has not hit for average, but has power, been clutch, and is a better defender. A mix of Inge, Sizemore (next year) is more durable than Chavez and his baggage, plus Inge/Sizemore bring leadership and integrity to the position. It's not hard to imagine another Chavez 'setback' if he was a trade target and/or resigned.

chavez didnt play cause he had major back issues and i agree its a risk with him in future but he comes cheap and seems like hes gettin form back hey if you can get 3 yrs at 2 or 3 mill a yr then you get payback on the bad yrs..

its all a risk but Beane throws darts all the time anyway right??

But then when it doesn’t work out, you’ll crucify Beane, again :-)

no i get on Beane for trading good players for nothing or very bad trades on paper period....gonzo n street for a rental at 18 mill a yr worst trade in A's history hands down.. or eithier for a questionable character even Raja davis the guy is a solid player hitten .270 35 steals we got nothing for him is he better then crisp i think so.. so u pay a guy 7 mill and let a guy go making 2 mill same talent.

but if you get Chavez cheap i think its no risk right just like colon if he stunk at 2 million no biggie so no i wouldnt be all over beane for this.

the prob is Beane got lucky and got some good trades even though the Gio gonzo trade to nationals still in wash favor people are blinded bye theses good trades but beane has had horrundous trades this lunitic has made that set this franchise back 6 yrs in the eithier and gonzolous street deals .

lets be realistic Beane will make more bad deals and screw up these deals and undo the good things he has done.

susuki even though he was hitting for low ave his defense is missed ,do we win the game on sat of last homestand? maybe!! the steal of 3rd should have been thrown out but became winning run but with susuki was prob an out... so why do you trade a veteran catcher if your in wild card chase?

Beane completly gambled on Reddick and Cespedas they turned out good bets, prob is he's a gambler and most gamblers give back to the house thier winnings and more .....eventually

Yeah, maybe we can trade Barton and some of the AAAAs as part of the transaction--you know, to provide a sweetener for the failed $66M contract prior to Chavez's impending health problems.

First we have a guy posting on the site with live Chavez stats every day and now this.

Sacto you have officially gone off the deep end.

Perhaps we can sign Tejada, Dye, and Damon then trade for Giambi and Hernandez and get the whole 2001 team back together?

To quote Phillip Seymour Hoffman (as BB in Moneyball) "You have stepped outside your mind"

Sacto (I mean this with complete sincerity) please Get a Clue.

The Yankees are a team that has won 70 games one of the best teams in baseball and chavez is a reg contributor on that team.

I beg to differ

he's better this yr then our SS and 2nd base man both auto outs and under acheivers

if you have prejudice about the near past when he was hurt yes i see your point but from 99 to 2006 he was a consistant contributor and looks to be in that form this yr.

if you can get 250 to 300 AB and he produces like this yr for reasonable $$ why not?
