and she gave the information on tomorrow's meeting with Jane Brunner. Great!

I also sent him links to the report on the effects of building a ballpark near Jack London Square.

Hey, oaksi! Glad you heard me!

There was a good turnout today, about 100 people, many of whom spoke for a few minutes and mostly supported an Oakland park. No one condemned the project as too costly, etc.

Jane Brunner is a great proponent for our cause. She presents the case for a stadium as a community economic development issue. The stadium will increase property values and thus increase property tax revenue. That's in addition to increased revenue from new businesses that will (hopefully) spring up around the park.

There was so much optimism in the meeting, it's hard (but important) to return to reality. Before any details are worked out on the three proposed sites, the city is waiting for word from the MLB blue ribbon committee. That committee will likely wait for the vote in San Jose in November. They are not going to get embroiled in the territorial rights issue unless the voters approve S.J.'s plan.

Interestingly, marinelayer was there live-blogging on his brand new iPad.

I ran into Jean Quan (who's running fo rmayor) today. I asked her whether she supported keeping the A's in Oakland. She started with some long thing about SAn Jose and about Wolff really wanting to leave. I replied that it's actually not up to Wolff but rather to all of the MLB owners, 75% of whom will need to approve of the move - then to the Giants who will need to be paid off - finally to the voters in San Jose. Then I asked her again if she supported keeping the A's in Oakland and she answered, "sign up for my newsletter."

That's not encouraging. I wonder how Don Perata feels about it. He was mainly responsible for the Raiders fiasco. He may have cold feet.

I've already known for sometime now that I will not be voting for Quan. No I really know she won't be getting my vote!

So MLB is waiting to see what the voters in San Jose do? So Oakland is chop liver? We're regulated to second banana after over forty years. We're also at the mercy of a commission which answers to Bud Selig. It seems that they'll use Oakland until the bitter end to get what they want in San Jose. Is the humiliation really worth it? At times, I feel that Oakland should just throw Wolff's bags out on Hegenberger and send him packing. This BS gets tiring.
