The Boss
OAFC BBS - All Topics: Off Field Matters: The Boss
i dont understand how everyone is saying steinbrenner did so much for the game etc..... how franchises are worth more and how good it is the Yankees are a great team cause they always help the road teams draw. well it was him who got the salaries escalated who helped ruin baseball in the over inflated costa and yes they do draw but temas would not need the draw if he hadnt jacked up the cost of players. he really helped ruin the game as we know it today im glad he is dead hope he rotts in hell.
Pretty harsh but you make a good point. Although it would be nice if we had an owner that cared about the team winning and got involved in that aspect, rather than just wanting to make silicon valley a big sports market.
it was harsh but this guy alone ruined baseball he never helped it he pushed the salaries way way high
I meant to post this sooner. It's by Richard Hoffer, from the July 26 Sports Illustrated. "Steinbrenner was the first [among owners] to recognize how a sports franchise, just during his time, had grown in importance, even beyond a dollar figure. He was the first to realize that teams had become public trusts, civic preserves that must be tended with sure and confident hands. He was the first to appreciate how sacred, how vital these things had become to a community. He was the first to understand -- and he'd also be the first to tell you -- that running one was not a job for just anybody." Compare that to Lew Wolff. Makes me want to cry.
