first, by Howard Bryant, written in 2010

http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/otl/columns/story?columnist=bryant_howard&id=4357166

the most interesting part seems to connect Beane's rejection of Boston's GM offer in 2002 to his becoming part owner of the A's even though Wolff & Co didn't buy the team until 2005:

"In the six years since the book was published, "Moneyball" hasn't benefited anyone in baseball more than Beane. In the fall of 2002, he turned down a five-year, $12.5 million offer to become the general manager of the Boston Red Sox to remain in Oakland, leveraging that decision into a historic position: part owner. Lew Wolff, the owner of the A's, offered Beane a 2½ percent equity stake in the team, worth roughly $8 million."

The second article, published today, calls for the A's to get rid of Beane as GM. Although I highly doubt that will happen, I expect to see more of these articles:

I'll give Beane another fail for making Carter a bench player, when he needs to be playing regularly in AAA. He was injured late last season, throughout the winter, and part of this season. He's a streaky hitter who always takes time to heat up when he moves up. Bringing him up to warm the bench and flounder in the bigs is not how you are supposed to handle your biggest power prospect.

I agree oaksi...there's still hope for Carter if handled properly by playing him when he's called up
