This is funny. I just looked up this game up on retrosheet.org because it was a birthday game of mine that I was at on October 1, 1989 which was the final day of the season. A's beat the Royals 4-3 in 11 innings and it was in part to something Billy Beane did in the bottom of the 11th:

ATHLETICS 11TH: Javier walked; Javier stole second (it was the
1-0 pitch); Beane out on a sacrifice bunt (Leach to de los
Santos) [Javier to third]; Bando singled to Winters (it was the
1-2 pitch) [Javier scored]; 1 R, 1 H, 0 E, 1 LOB. Royals 3,
Athletics 4.

Yes people Billy Beane's final plate appearance in Major League Baseball was a bunt...and I was there to witness history. :)

Mr. Anti-Bunt bunts to end his playing career. How ironic is that??

Didn't he play in the post-season that year?

He wasn't on the postseason roster or if he was he didn't play.

hmm...I thought he was on the roster. Why do they always say that Beane has a WS ring? Do they give rings to non-roster players?

Kevin, I'm sure they do. Some players with the team the entire season or even part of it, are often left off the roster to fill other needs, or are injured. I would think they would also get the ring, however, as well as a split in the postseason earnings.
