MLB has drafted a "Free Agent Advice Form", available to any GM for the asking. I guess I shouldn't be so cynical, but this is absolutely pathetic. In effect, it is their attempt to set some criteria for a player's value and a monetary scale for what he's worth. I guess it is a feeble attempt for some sort of cap without a cap. But after reading it, well, I think it is ridiculous.

If a GM doesn't know how to do a comparison chart with like players, before signing a particular FA, well then I must ask why is he a General Manager?

Actually, in view of th DBack/Backman fiasco, they would have been wiser to send out an advisory on background checks. :)

Judging by how almost every free agent signed so far has been overpaid, I don't think it's working. KRIS BENSON gets $7.5 million a year today to stay with the Mets.
