Etherton was a SOLID prospect - this is a typical great move by BB - nothing to lose here except he beats out someone for a spot. If he's healthy and has a good camp, he could sneak in there somewhere or force a trade of someone else, because he has the stuff. Will be interesting.

I really feel like the additions for ST this year is the best crop we have had in years. Not the existing roster, more like the bubble guys like Cust, Etherton, Bocachica and of course, all the rooks like Jairo, Meyer, etc....

It's going to be a very exciting spring.

Etherton will be a starter at Sacto and available for emergency starts or if one of the rookies needs some fine-tuning at AAA. I don't think we want him as a 5th starter for the season - that would not bode well.

In six minor league seasons he has a 3.89 ERA and 1.27 WHIP - not bad, though he's been great at AA and just OK in AAA. His ML performance has been awful - in 90 IPs, 5.98 ERA, 1.59 WHIP.

If Etherton somehow makes the big league club and has some success, the Angels will be kick themselves for traded him away. On paper, his stats aren't great in the Majors but winning a job is always on field.

Exactly my sentiments asch, for the past 3-4 years, we can more or less pencil in 20-23 positions before ST starts, now, what infield set(assuming Ginter), catchers, Kotsay, Swisher, Byrnes, Durazo, Zito, Harden, Blanton, Haren, Dotel, Rincon, Cruz, Duscherer, Calero are etched in close to stone, that leaves about 8 spots open for battle for playing time, positions and roles. Meyer, Yabu, Ellis, Scutaro, Kielty, Thomas, it'll be nice to see the competition, rather than seeing guys just get ready for April.
