From todays New York Times

http://www.nytimes.com/2002/05/07/sports/baseball/07FANS.html

It's a good article about the precipitous decline in attendence at new ballparks if the owners don't put a winning product on the field. This argues strongly against selig's claim that teams need news stadiums to survive.

Did anyone see the nice article in Sunday's CC Times about Raley Field?

Not that these findings about the fading glow of new ballparks will mean anything to Selig and Co. Considering they make their decisions in secret, can impose their decisions on fans and franchises, and can conduct themselves in as corrupt a manner as they want (exempt from anti-trust laws), all Selig needs is a simple pretense -- even a false one -- to continue to threaten teams and cities with contraction or relocation.
