Amazingly, the ANG Web site doesn't have the editorial today, but basically, the Oakland Tribune editorial calls for the city and county to approve the A's lease extension, as is.

Also, Neil Hayes of the Contra Costa Times wrote Sunday that it will take a ``miracle'' for the ballpark plan to come true.

We gotta fight this negativity. A lot of reporters/columnists seem to be gauging the situation like a politician, and then trying to align themselves with how it's going to turn out, rather than fighting for how it SHOULD turn out. We gotta fight this.

It's a long editorial, but here are the final 3 paragraphs:

"It's understandable that city officials would be in no rush to approve a pact with the A's in light of the recent memory of a less-than-appealing deal to get Al Davis' Raiders to come back home. However, we would hope that council members will assess each experience on a case-by-case basis.

And we'd like to see an end to the political grandstanding and gratuitous he-beat-me-to-the-punch performances that both members of the City Council and the Board of Supervisors have at times trotted out. It doesn't matter to us who gets the credit for an understanding to keep the A's in Oakland, as long as the team does stay put.

The compromise lease extension will provide a tangible basis for the continued presence of the A's at the Coliseum in the near term. It will also buy city, county, Coliseum Authority and team officials time to draft and approve the blueprint for a new stadium. We urge the City Council to give it an affirmative signal."
