Ron Dellums seems a lot more reasonable about a new Oakland A's ballpark than previously described:

http://www.insidebayarea.com/oaklandtribune/localnews/ci_3499011

"As long as it did not put a heavy burden on the city's treasury, Dellums said he would not rule out public financing, while De La Fuente said money for a new ballpark would be far down on his list of priorities.

AND

Nadel said she would not support public financing to build a new ballpark for the Oakland Athletics baseball team but expressed hope one will be constructed on what is now the parking lot for McAfee Coliseum."

Thanks for posting that article. I read a summary of the debate in the Chronicle, and it didn't mention the ballpark situation.

Del La Fuente is way more likey to get the A's to stay then Dellums. Del La Fuente knows how to get stuff done he has the experince. Dellums just wants to screw around a build a "model city" whatever the hell that is.

Can't hurt to keep an open mind on any of the candidates.

Dellums doesn't need to posture, so it's fair to take him at his word. No knock on De La Fuente, all I'm saying is Dellums ain't a knee-jerk naysayer on the A's, like others have (mis)described him.

Stay tuned.

They're gonna have a mayoral debate this Friday at JLS so I don't know if you could go there as an audience member and ask questions but would love to have some A's fans there ask each of them would they'd do to get a deal done with the A's and ask if they really think the A's owners really want to stay here.

I agree w/beanetown, Dellums doesn't need to posture & he's probably not helping himself politically stating he's open to using some public funds towards a ballpark. Dellums is probably the next mayor, so despite any details, this is good news towards getting a ballpark in Oakland. Ignorante DLF could've used a better choice of words towards the A's.

Did De La Fuente say in a television interview, "They (A'S) can do whatever they want as long as they pay for it"?
