Great that Chavez didn't make it cause he needs to rest his shoulder up and if he somehow got injured in the WBC, it could really hurt the A's even though they have a quality backup with Perez who could man all IF spots other than 1B.
Happy to see Street make it though.

According to this story from the CC Times, there's no chance Chavez can play for Mexico unless one of the other 3B drops out.

Doesn't the Netherlands need a third-baseman? Maybe Chavez undergo one of those nationality transfusions, like Danny Haren, and play for them.

Hope Chavez packs his spanish/english dictionary!
According to the Oakland Tribune, Chavez is not eligible to play for Mexico.
OAKLAND - Eric Chavez expressed interest in playing for Mexico in the upcoming World Baseball Classic after he was left off the United State roster, but he isn't eligible, a WBC official confirmed Wednesday morning to ANG Newspapers.
Chavez's father was born in Mexico, but the A's all-star third baseman wasn't on Mexico's 60-man provisional rosters that were due Jan. 18. Some players, such as Alex Rodriguez and Marco Scutaro, were on multiple rosters.
``It's pretty black and white,'' one WBC executive said. ``If you're not on the provisional roster, you can't play.''
If an injury occurred, Chavez could still join
the USA roster and told USA manager Buck Martinez that he's still eager to play if needed.
Mexico is paring down its provisional roster to 33 players this week. It's expected A's starter Esteban Loaiza will be on the team and part of their starting rotation. Final 30-man rosters for all teams are due five days before the opening game.

"If an injury occurred, Chavez could still join the USA roster"
I heard on MLB Home Plate (XM) this morning that Chipper Jones may be dropping out of the WBC. Apparently his 18 month old son has some sort of "intestinal infection". There's the roster spot that Chavez wants.
