Saying all the right things:

"106.9 FREE FM VP/General Manager Steve DiNardo commented "There are a lot of ingredients you can put together to win in radio ... the A's are at the top of that list. 106.9 FREE FM is very excited to add the Bay Area's most successful baseball team to our already talented lineup. We look forward to providing A's fans throughout the Bay Area with winning coverage of their favorite team."

The A'S join the Braves and Nationals as MLB teams with both FM and AM stations. Not even the mighty Yankees or Red Sox have this situation. Wow, now A'S baseball can be heard on FM, AM, XM, and on the Internet.

the Bay Area's most successful baseball team

Someone should fax this sentence above as memo to Wolff and Co.

I wonder if they will have sports talk formatted shows during baseball season.

They have Opie & Anthony, Tom Leykis and (I Think) Adam Carolla in their weekday schedule.

That's quite a format turnaround from 2005 and the Christian Radio station that practically apologized for having to interupt the format to bring Oakand A's Baseball "due to previous contractual obligations".

What do you mean, "practically"???

sorry, martin. games are blacked out. Internet MLB broadcasts are the sole province of Gameday Audio.

I was listening to their afternoon programming, quite raunchy indeed.

Top of pagePrevious messageNext messageBottom of pageLink to this message   By jesse on Tuesday, October 31, 2006 - 05:59 pm:

But I should say it was a refreshing alternative to my usual afternoon listening. I'll tune in more often.

Raunchy? In what way?

80K watts, finally A's fans around the Bay Area can listen to the game without having to serach thru multiple stations.

Still would love to have a radio call in show during the game or even just before the game.

Great move by the A's...for once...now lets hire Wash!

the hosts had women undressing each other and while they were doing it there was seventies porno music was playing. Later they were trying to see which woman could get the most candy corn in her mouth without using her hands and the hosts were saying things like "I wish I was that candy corn" and stuff like that.

That wasnt nearly as bad a Tom Lychus. I've never heard his show before this evening, and I must say that I will NEVER listen to it again. He spends his whole time talking about how to exploit women. He also gave a caller the "Laci Peterson". Which is basically the sound a frying pan hitting someone over the head followed by some large object being dumped into the water. At that point I turned it off. I will NEVER EVER listen to that SH*T again.

Now can the A's find a better tv station?

Both Channel 3(KRON) and the Channel 13(old WB network) could be good fits for the A's instead of the programming they have on now for their weeknight schedules.

Top of pagePrevious messageNext messageBottom of pageLink to this message   By bfriend on Tuesday, October 31, 2006 - 10:50 pm:

KRON would be great. They have a High Def channel as well.

Top of pagePrevious messageNext messageBottom of pageLink to this message   By rayfossefan on Wednesday, November 01, 2006 - 12:15 am:

I don't know, but we need more A's on TV up in SAC.

Hope the A's keep their radio deal up here, or improve it.

But this is great for the BA. 106.9 Free FM is cool! The A's are on stereo!! Beat that, Gnats.

Well CBS also owns KPIX and KBHK 44, either of which would be fine with me. I think that both stations have a strong presence in the bay area. However my preference would KBHK because they just lost UPN and they need quality programming.

Top of pagePrevious messageNext messageBottom of pageLink to this message   By oaktownfan on Wednesday, November 01, 2006 - 10:07 pm:

Forget about getting the NBC, CBS, or ABC alliates to show A's games...they're not gonna screw up their prime time lineups that probably would draw more than A's games themselves.

KRON, the old WB station in the Bay Area which would be channel 20/cable 13 which is called "your TV", and the independent stations probably are the most likely to pick up A's games if they wanted to.

KBHK 44, that was changed to UPN years ago and now in the Bay Area it's the The CW...and I don't see the local tv station here bumbing most of their weeknight programs on really still a new station for A's games.

Top of pagePrevious messageNext messageBottom of pageLink to this message   By jesse on Thursday, November 02, 2006 - 02:27 pm:

I confused KBHK with channel 20. You're right. At the same time, I don't see whats wrong with keeping KICU, its a good station.

Top of pagePrevious messageNext messageBottom of pageLink to this message   By oaktownfan on Thursday, November 02, 2006 - 05:11 pm:

The signal sucks, both KRON and the old WB stations are a lot better in terms of signal and neither has the big time primetime weeknight schedules that would make most here in the Bay Area all that upset with if they were re-scheduled.

Top of pagePrevious messageNext messageBottom of pageLink to this message   By finleyunplugged on Thursday, November 02, 2006 - 06:08 pm:

I haven't watched anything other than A's baseball on KICU, since the days when they had well-endowed co-eds from San Jose State doing their station ID's, saying, "I See YOU 36!"

Top of pagePrevious messageNext messageBottom of pageLink to this message   By oaktownfan on Saturday, November 04, 2006 - 08:18 am:

Does KICU even reach all 9 Bay Area counties?

If it doesn in certain areas, what do A's fans do? Go to a sports bar or does some other station pick up the game in their area.

I remember when A's games in the late 90s were on KNBR when they still had NBC, shocked the A's could bump their nightly schedules at times so it's not like the two sides haven't work with each other before.

Top of pagePrevious messageNext messageBottom of pageLink to this message   By eyleenn on Saturday, November 04, 2006 - 06:40 pm:

A's on KNBR radio in the late 90's? I don't think so. Maybe you mean KRON TV, but it wasn't in the late 90's. Maybe early 90's.

Top of pagePrevious messageNext messageBottom of pageLink to this message   By oaktownfan on Saturday, November 04, 2006 - 10:36 pm:

My mistake, I meant KRON. I thought it was the mid to late 90s. Remember it distinctly cause we had that horrible play by play man K.Wilson working with Fosse while G.Papa worked on FSN then, or was it still SC? Then Papa made the move to full time TV play by play when the A's made the switch to KICU in 99 I believe.

A's were on KNBR 1968-70.

Top of pagePrevious messageNext messageBottom of pageLink to this message   By sactodavey on Friday, November 10, 2006 - 09:22 pm:

the A's were on KNBR in 1976 ,1977 also then KNBR droped them in 78 then got the gnats in 79.
