for David Shafer from the Reds - a Middle Reliever.

52k 16bb in 49 innings at AA last year for the REds. They say he has an arsenal similar to Gaudin.

Hopefully he puts it good use for us. Seems like a money dump with Saarloos. 5-6 players getting kicks of 800-900 g's each, Saarloos was the most expendable of those arb players.

Wow, guess this means Kennedy has a clear opening for the #5 job now as Saarloos probably was his main challenger in ST.

Though don't the A's have a deep enough bullpen currently and a few prospects in the minors who could fill in as the 7th/8th RPs.

Most Red fans like the move...thinking about another Harang, doubt it. Saarloos in the NL and being a garound ball pitch could be a decent #5 but that's aabout it.

Who is the PTBNL? Red fan above thinks maybe their rule 5 pick in Burton?

Bullpen wise, we got Street, Duke, Calero, Embree, Gaudin, Flores, Witasick, Marshall(Rule 5 guy), yep 8 guys in the pen.

SP-Harden, Haren, Loaiza, Blanton, Kennedy
RP-Embree, Marshall, Gaudin, Calero, Duke
CP-Street

Minors-Hasley, Windsor, Komine, Flores, Witasick, Castilla, and maybe McBeth who was the best minor league RP in the A's system.

I don't know, is Beane gonna get that young bat he said he wanted to get last month?

With this amount of RP depth, would Beane trade away still a Duke maybe to CLE for that young RH power bat Garko kid, like it was rumored months ago?

CLE needs a cloer bad.

Cleveland's banking on Foulke, Borowski, or those young kids, either Cabrera or Carmona. Would they take Duke and put him as closer? Garko's penciled in as the starter, but they've added Trot Nixon to a crowded OF, I'm sure Casey Blake can move to first.

If it hasn't already been mentioned, the A's signed Duke yesterday for one year, $1.19 mill.
