Athletics place OF Buck on DL
June 29, 2007
BRONX, NEW YORK (TICKER) -- The Oakland Athletics on Friday placed outfielder Travis Buck on the 15-day disabled list with a sprained right thumb.
Buck is batting .283 with six home runs and 20 RBI in 54 games this season, his first in the major leagues.
The Athletics made a series of other roster moves on Friday, recalling infielder Donnie Murphy and purchasing the contract of outfielder Dee Brown from Class AAA Sacramento of the Pacific Coast League, optioning righthander Ruddy Lugo to Sacramento and transferring outfielder Chris Snelling to the 60-day DL.
Murphy appeared in five games with Oakland earlier this season, going hitless in four at-bats. Brown, who has an average of .234 with 14 homers and 89 RBI in 263 career games with Kansas City, has yet to play for the Athletics.
Lugo posted a 2-0 record with an 11.85 ERA and 11 strikeouts in 14 relief appearances this season. Snelling batted .246 with one homer and seven RBI in 30 games before being placed on the DL on May 17.
I thought Snelling was pretty close to being ready to come back. Does that 60-day DL move date back to his original DL date, i.e., he would be eligible to come off on July 17?
Don't expect Snelling to play again this season. Surgery was recommended and because of his many surgeries on the knee in the past, he wanted to try rehabbing it without surgery. It now looks as though he is going to have to have arthroscopic surgery, after all. But it's not clear when, if indeed at all. He had to quit his recent rehab because the knee became too sore again.
