This used to be big news. At this point, Murphy may be an upgrade.

Fu''in Speier. I thought we should have thrown at one of their guys, maybe today....we'll even the score. The guy got 2 hits, a bunt single and a nice shot to left, then gets busted in the hand, why you got to bust a guy inside when he's 3 yards from the plate. Ridiculous.

who cares! Most of us have been wanting him out of the way anyway. This is a blessing - and not even in disguise. It also just confirms how brittle he is.

"I thought we should have thrown at one of their guys."

It wasn't intentional; pitchers have to pitch inside, he wasn't throwing at him.

I believe it was Haren, or one of our guys who hit Howie Kendrick in April, which resulted in a broken finger. I heard our announcers talking about it, but not sure he was hit by a pitch or it happened in the field. This was during their mid-April trip into Oakland, I believe.

Lost for the season is what Ken and Ray are saying on the radio broadcast.

Yes, sacto, most A's fans (me included) would love to see a talented replacement for Crosby. He's been overrated, IMO. But ... I feel sorry for the guy. He has had numerous injuries ... not of the hamstring or oblique variety, either. Most all broken bones and long term chunks on the DL. We all shake our heads when we hear of another injury to Harden and/or Crosby. Whether you like them or not, this is their career and with so many injuries (not self-induced, mind you) these guys have to be wondering if they'll ever realize their dream and reach their career potential or whether they'll have to find another line of work. It has to be extremely depressing for them. I just think it is sad and feel for them, whether I want them on my team or not. Nobody deserves that kind of luck. I think it is sad.

Wishful thinking, but Miguel comes off the DL on Friday.

Could there be any better way for Wolff & Beane to engender goodwill among A's fans than to put him back in Green and Gold?

Would there be anything worse than seeing him in a garish red Angels uniform?

According to reports, the Angels are looking to trade for Konerko so Tejada isn't a likely target with them having both Wood, their top prospect, up and Cabrera having a very good season.

Even though I've ripped on Crosby, I don't wanna see anybody injured. This doesnt' look like it's career threatening but if Murphy or whoever is given the SS job as it seems Crosby is out for the year, it could end his career with the A's if his replacement looks good these next two months.

In today's notes, Slusser says Harden is once again "close" to throwing.

Actually, Harden threw about 50 pitches (at full speed) in the bullpen on Saturday. Both Harden and Loaiza were throwing at the same time.

Dorrit, you will get that every where, even here. There are just fans who just don't get it. There are just a few morons out there that give the fans a bad name. Just don't categorize them all together if we do, we should all be cell phone tossing, chair throwing hooligans.

Re shortstops in the system. I am following Gregorio Petit closely. Excellent defender and is showing some promise offensively. He was hitting .306 at Midland and voted to the Texas League All-Star team, though he never played in it, as he was promoted to Sacto.

In his first 25 ABs at AAA, he was 2-25, but in July he is hitting .320 with .803 ops. For the season, in 95 games, he is hitting .293 with 5 HRs and 44 RBIs. He will be 23 in December.

They sometimes let the kids run the bags after some of the home games. Sacto, you might enjoy that.

Has anybody missed Crosby, I haven't.

Not the way Murphy has hit since becoming the full time starting SS late June.

-.244(10/41), 8 runs, 5 2Bs, 2 HRs, 9 RBIs in 11 games.

Compare that to Crosby and what he did over his last two months in June/July.

-.192(32/167), 17 runs, 6 2Bs, 3 HRs, 11 RBIs in 45 games.

Correction, Murphy came in late July.

He's still young enough at 24 to be a serious candidate to be the long term SS, or even 2B if the A's don't decide to bring back Ellis, though I think that's unlikely to happen.

I know the A's drafted Horton with their 5th pick in this past draft and have the likes of Petit and Pennington in the minors who could be answers to either middle IF spot so Crosby's job could be in jeopardy in the near future especially if Murphy continues to play well these next two months.

Can't say I miss him. I cringed whenever I saw him lunge at the low and away pitch.

Murphy with a two run HR...Crosby should start worry about your long term sitatuion here IMO regardless of his contract.

Just keep it up Murphy. He is also showing he is more relaxed in the field. And his arm/rocket is incredible. I hope he just keeps going like he is. Will Beane have the balls to make him the #1 ss, if he does? This could prove to be very interesting come next spring. I certainly hope so, anyway. Wasn't he a high draft choice by KC? Also I see where he has not played ss throughout his minor league career. Nice article on him on A's mlb site, by the way.

Murphy was KC's 5th round pick in the 02 draft, not a high pick, but still pretty highly thought of to be drafted in the first handful of rounds in the MLB draft.

Since replacing Crosby as the full time SS, Murphy has done a hell of a job...

-.260(14/54), 12 runs, 4 HRs, 12 RBIs.

Miggy is owed $26mil over the next two years. Just think, he could have had more in Detroit but thought Baltimore was closer to winning, evidently, when he made his decision on where to sign
