Diamondbacks claim LHP Kennedy from Athletics
August 4, 2007
OAKLAND, CALIFORNIA (TICKER) -- The Oakland Athletics on Saturday lost the services of lefthander Joe Kennedy, who was claimed off waivers by the Arizona Diamondbacks.
It was the third waiver claim in two days by Arizona, which grabbed infielder Jeff Cirillo from the Minnesota Twins and righthander Byung-Hyun Kim from the Florida Marlins.
The 28-year-old Kennedy made 27 appearances with Oakland this season, including 16 starts, and went 3-9 with a 4.37 ERA. Acquired from Colorado at the All-Star break in 2005, the veteran owns a career record of 42-61 with seven complete games, two shutouts, two saves and a 4.75 ERA in 210 career games with the Tampa Bay Devil Rays, Rockies and Athletics.
To replace Kennedy on the roster, Oakland recalled righthander Ruddy Lugo from Class AAA Sacramento of the Pacific Coast League.
Claimed off waivers from Tampa Bay on June 14, Lugo made three appearances with Oakland earlier this season, allowing seven runs and five hits in three innings. The 27-year-old Dominican is 4-4 with a 4.93 ERA in 78 career games with the Devil Rays and Athletics.
