If you plan on giving up on the A's when they move to Fremont post here

I have loved the A's because they represent my home town. As of now if the change their name from Oakland I will not be a fan. If the keep the name I will remain open to being a fan.

Fuck the MLB. Cuban baseball is the only unadulterated version left of the game which has superior players. Fuck the Fremont A's and the dildos that run it. Fuck the MLB and the likes of JD Drew. I don't think I could remain devoted even if they remained in Oakland. Perhaps if Walter Hass and a young Rickey were somehow cloned. Vamanos Villa Clara. Viva La Revolucion. God I admire you.

rtd supporting the Cubans? Don't let all the Republicans on this board hear about that.

But I'm with you man, MLB is too money-oriented, too corrupt. Yeah, I know it's a business, but there are degrees.

I love baseball as a sport but the major professional league in this country has lost me as a fan. For now on, I'm either rooting for non-MLB baseball or for international soccer. I've never heard of a European football team leaving it's home city. And you know the Brazilian national team will never abandon Brazil.

That's a lot more respect for the fan.

We have a midnight summer league in Alaska. It's for collage players that need to learn how to use wooden bats. I will have my Baseball without all the spoiled owners and players.

Count me in as a non MLB fan and that will include the Fremont Cisco Men.

And you know the Brazilian national team will never abandon Brazil.

Funny that you would mention that Chris. I don't know if you're aware I'm brazilian and I do root for Brazil and USA during the WC.

But one sad thing about that is that the team will not relocate of course, but the players do...most of the great brazilian players are playing in Europe and only play for the brazilian national team during the WC.

Now, the local teams would never even dream of relocating, although they can't compete with contracts to their groomed home grown talent and eventually lose them to European clubs.

Fortunately soccer in Brazil is in their blood, they start playing before they can walk. So more talent keeps coming to the clubs who gets these players when they're around 10yo sending them to the (baseball academy MLB clubs have in the Dominican) training clubs around the country.

The team I root for in Rio "Flamengo", a team of the people, who bred players of great talent like Zico and Romario. If Flamengo would try to move, there would be a revolution of great proportions...and I'm not kidding.

I remember my Grandmother telling me she didn't like baseball any more because it was too much about the money, and she said this back in the 70's. Well she's since passed on to a much better place, and here I am 30+ years later feeling the exact same way she did. What passion I once had for the Oakland A's is slowly deflating like the air in a ballon. First Ron Washington goes to Texas and now this,(sigh) I just can't get excited about the Cisco A's of Fremont. But something deep inside me tells me this whole Oakland Athletics saga is far from over.

Hey Lil,

Is it true that the Pan American games will be in Rio next year? I might make a trip to see my beloved nacional team play.

Top of pagePrevious messageNext messageBottom of pageLink to this message   By diamond_lil on Wednesday, November 22, 2006 - 09:50 pm:

rtd, yes the Pan American games will take place in Rio in June/July 07.

I'm looking forward to watching as many baseball games as I can. Be sure to let me know if you make the trip. I'll show you some brazilian hospitality with a baseball flavor :)

It's a done deal. Wolff is chaning the name to San Jose A's of Fremont. Yes it stinks very badly. And the fans will all be on their laptops and 880 will be a parking lot on gamedays, and baseball will be the last thing on people's mind in the future when it comes to A's games. BOO!

The name change is hardly a surprise. They said they are looking for a new image for the team...
and I just wish they'd take the "Athletics" out...but I bet they want a new image with a touch of the "A's" legacy. To them it is the best of their two wacky worlds.

I'm done with MLB. The Silicon Valley A's @ Fremont mean nothing to me. After being a huge A's fan ever since I was 12 years old, this year, I did not attend a single A's game for the first time. I did not watch a single game on TV or listen to a game on the radio. Congratulations Lew Wolff. You succeeded in doing something even Charles Finley couldn't do. You succeeded in making the A's irrelevant in my life.

I guess I don't get it i have been an A's fan my whole life but Oakland has not done anything to help support this team. They need a new stadium there's is a joke and possibly could be the worst stadium in baseball. It would be nice if they could build a stadium in Oakland but if they can't then they need to go to a city that will build one.

Some of us feel Oakland has done EVERYTHING to support the A's.

Selig/Schott/Wolff don't want baseball in the City of Oakland.

End of story.

I feel your pain mroakland. I admire your commitment. I can completely understand someone not wanting to get behind an organization run by the likes of Schittman or Wolff.

I guess it's the child in me that sees the colors and refuses to give up on the team itself. My feelings about this org from the ticket services people all the way up have not been camouflaged.

I guess however I will pick my spots until the day they are no more. Or when a righteous owner that resembles the Hass family acquires them. Piccinini was probably are last hope for that. The Oracle of Used Cars from Milwaukee nixed that.
