http://www.insidebayarea.com/athletics/ci_10670196 A's send coach back to minors Oakland also won't retain strength and conditioning coach Article Last Updated: 10/08/2008 02:01:53 PM PDT OAKLAND - The Oakland Athletics reassigned first base coach Tony DeFrancesco to their minor league system on Wednesday. In addition, the A's also announced they will not renew the contract of strength and conditioning coach Clarence Cockrell. Joining Bob Geren's major league coaching staff this past season, DeFrancesco has served 15 years with the Oakland organization. Prior to 2008, he spent 14 years managing in the A's minor league system, including five seasons as manager of the Triple-A Sacramento River Cats from 2003-07. Cockrell recently completed his seventh season as the Athletics' strength and conditioning coach. He arrived in Oakland in 2002 after spending two years as the Detroit Tigers' minor league strength and conditioning coordinator.
also, Van Burkleo's contract was renewed for another year.
That's a hell of a demotion for DeFrancesco. Considering the manager's post at AAA is filled, how far down in the system would he go? Assuming this also means a reduction in pay, Tony D. may want to start looking for a position in another organization ASAP. After this, what future does he possibly have with the A's?
I would guess he's looking for employment in another organization.
Why was TDF demoted?
Mychael Urban thinks that the A's are looking for an experienced infield coach.
I'd be happier if the A's were looking for an experienced infield.
